International Class: Reports from the Field

Ishita Sanyal

Hi, I am from India. I am psychologist & Founder Director of Turning Point,(www.turningpoint.org.in) an institute to transform the lives of unfortunates victims of mental illness through different creative activities & performance.

I have recently graduated from East Side Institute of Social Therapy & have imbibed some of new outlooks which I think are important tools for development & growth.
Transforming the life of people suffering from mental illness as well as transforming the society & the community they live are all an integral part of development & growth. I think East Side Institute has been able to add few new dimensions in my effort of building community & transforming people & making the lives of these special people more beautiful, developmental & useful to them. To make them feel that they are not any more a burden to the society but an useful integral part of this beautiful wonderful world.

The rehabilitation works that we do has been accepted by World Fellowship for Schizophrenia & Allied disorder as the ideal model for all developing countries & they are teaching it in other countries.I have received David Feinsilver Award as best paper for my family work. I have also received Manthan award in 2007

I am also the Regional Director of NAMI, India & Indian Representative of ISPS, International. All the works have enriched my life & has given me new directions & visions in my life.
